Running water and the urge to pee

Yet another annoying feature of human physiology. Example: I'm feeling my normal self, no urges of any kind. Well maybe I'm a little peckish, so I go to wash up before fixing a snack. And what happens? Halfway through washing my hands I get an irresistible urge to pee. And what does this mean? It means I have to wash my hands again!

It also hits at other times, like when I'm just getting a drink of water. Wham! Go pee now!

Of course I refuse to give in and I finish my drink of water while doing the holding-back-a-nearly-irresistible-urge-to-pee dance, but the damage is already done. My serentiy has been compromised.

I am not the master of my body, no matter how much I try to make it so, I'm merely a privileged passenger.

Why is it that you can have to take a dump for literally an hour--for example, while driving home--but its only riiiight when you get within three feet of the bathroom that you can't hold on anymore?  Its like you have a brain in your ass.  One that knows how close you are to a bathroom.

2 I think it's related to how people in life threatening situations can hold on for hours, and then die as the rescuers arrive. In that case it's adrenaline and willpower keeping them going, when rescue is imminent and they relax, the real world catches up and kills them. Same with holding back bodily waste, the moment you're in reach of the throne you relax. Relaxing speeds things up and you panic, the belt is suddenly impossible to get open, you tense the wrong muscles, then... Well let's not get into details on the various possible results.

3 Nice theory.  I'm sticking with the brain-in-ass one.
